Day 1: Cusco – Puerto Maldonado – Lodge – Monkey Island
As soon as you arrive at Maldonado airport, our guides and collaborators will contact you, to take you to the city centre, where the exotic local market can be visited. Of course, this will depend on the time of your arrival in the city. You will be able to use our facilities in the city to leave part of the equipment that we don't consider important for the following days of the trip.
We will then go downstream on an outboard motorboat, to reach the facilities of our hostel. Most of the time, this is when we have lunch, while enjoying the landscape of the Amazon river.
As soon as we arrive at our hostel, we will be welcome by a retinue, with a typical drink of the Amazon jungle. This will also be the moment to see our accommodations and to relax a little bit.
In the afternoon, we will take the boat for about 30 minutes, to go to the Monkey Island (spider monkey, capuchin monkey, squirrel monkey, etc.). At least 3 or 4 species can be observed in this area, as well as rodent birds. We will then go back to our hostel and will enjoy a delicious traditional dinner. The night hikes and activities are available all nights; they will be available for our guides to organize.
Day 2: Lodge – Sandoval Lake
Early in the morning, after breakfast, we will walk for about an hour and a half as far as the vicinity of one of the most beautiful settings of the Amazon jungle: the Sandoval lake, which offers a singular and harmonious landscape, complemented by the present fauna and flora. It also shelters the giant otter, an endangered species that we will be able to see in the area if we are lucky. During this visit, we will take a small canoe, which we will use to explore the lake, from which it is also possible to observe birds, some kinds of fishes, turtles, etc.
In the afternoon we will walk in the inmensity of the jungle. We will visit places where the size of the trees is very impressive.
Day 3: Lodge – Taricaya Project
After our usual breakfast, we will have the opportunity to discover the stunning and complicated system of tree tops forming a roof in the Amazon forest. On that day, we will go downstream for an hour, in the direction of the Taricaya project, where there is a system of interpretative paths, which will show us different aspects of the Amazon forest. We will learn more about the project, animal tracks, names of birds and medicinal plants.
Day 4: Lodge – Botanic gardens – Gamitana Ravine
In the morning, we will visit the botanic gardens, which are located about 10 minutes away from our Lodge, crossing the Madre de Dios river. This activity will last all morning. In the afternoon, we will enjoy the Sportive Fishing activity. This will take place in the Gamitana ravine, which is an hour away from our Lodge. We will then go back to our Lodge.
Day 5: Lodge – Parrot Clay Lick – Puerto Maldonado – Visit of the city – Cusco or Lima
In the morning, we will leave very early, to go to the parrots clay lick, in which a very unique show is waiting for us. We will have to travel for an hour and a half to reach the area where a clay wall feeds dozens of parrots, which congregate themselves every day, very early, to ingest the clay present in this area. After enjoying this show of the nature, we will head for the Puerto Maldonado city, to take a plane to Cusco or Lima.
